TULSA, Okla. -

The No.24-ranked Tulsa women's tennis squad will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, to face No. 65-ranked UNLV in the first round of the NCAA Championship on Friday, May 10, at the Vine Street Courts.

The Golden Hurricane (19-6) faces the Lady Rebels (19-6), while in the other first round match host Nebraska (22-5) will square off against Wichita State (15-10). The Huskers enter the tournament as the No. 15 seed and are ranked No. 16 in the nation. The winner of each match advances to the second round on May to determine which team advances to the Sweet 16.

The Lady Rebels made their way into the NCAA Championship by winning the Mountain West Conference Tournament.  The meeting marks the first time the two former WAC members have faced off during Head Coach Dean Orford's eight-year tenure.

The Hurricane holds a 4-1 record against the Cornhuskers during Orford's tenure, and a 5-2 ledger against the Shockers. TU and WSU matched up earlier this year at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center as the Golden Hurricane defeated the Shockers, 6-1, on Jan. 31.

"I like that we are matched up with a few teams that we haven't played this year," commented Head Coach Dean Orford. "It is good for the players and the coaches to have new challenges. We refuse to look beyond the first round against a tough UNLV team. We know we will have our hands full in the first round."

First and second round regional action will be played May 10-12 at 16 campus sites. The later rounds as well as the individual singles and doubles tournament are set for May 16-27, to be hosted at the University of Illinois' Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex at the Atkins Tennis Center for the first time in history.
