NCAA Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Junior Samantha Vickers qualified for the NCAA Singles Championship, while Vickers and sophomore Isaura Enrique earned a coveted spot in the NCAA Doubles Championship, the organization announced today.

Vickers, ranked No. 17 in the nation, becomes the sixth player in school history to compete in the singles championship. She joins Anousjka van Exel (1998-99), Alicia Pillay (2002-03), Aleksandra Durska (2003), Daniela Muscolino (2004-05) and Anastasia Erofeeva (2012) as TU athletes to compete in the singles championship. Vickers earned Conference USA’s automatic berth as she is the highest ranked player in the league as the junior holds a 31-3 record this season and is riding a 17 match winning streak in singles competition.

Vickers and Enrique also earned the league’s automatic spot in the tournament as the TU tandem is ranked No. 15 nationally. The duo became the first doubles squad in school history to be named to the Conference USA First-Team All-Conference squad. Vickers and Enrique snared a 20-3 record this spring and a 33-4 overall record. The duo attained a school-high doubles ranking of No. 9 on Jan. 3, and totaled 11 triumphs against ranked opponents.

The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 22-27 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center in Urbana, Ill., following the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 17-21. Illinois-Champaign will serve as host.

Tulsa will face UNLV on Friday, May 10, at 11 a.m. during the first round of the NCAA Championship in Lincoln, Neb.
