TULSA, Okla. -

The University of Tulsa women's tennis team will host the USTA/ITA Central Region Championship at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on October 18-22.

About The Tournament: The tournament features nearly 100 of the best and brightest women's tennis players from across the Central Region. There will be 19 universities represented in this year's edition of the Central Region Championship. The tournament will begin Oct. 18 with two rounds of qualifying, and the Main Draw will run from Oct. 19-22. Qualifying will begin on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m.

The Central Region champions will earn automatic bids to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 8-11 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

Last Time Out: Junior Michelle Farley won the singles title for the Tulsa women's tennis team at the Razorback Classic on Sunday, October 7, at the Billingsley Tennis Center.

Farley rallied to defeat Yang Pang of Arkansas 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, to win the singles title. Farley went a perfect 3-0 during the weekend in singles play.

In all, Tulsa picked up five victories in singles play during the final day of the tournament, as Farley, sophomore Maria Sant'Anna, senior Samantha Vickers, sophomore Isaura Enrique and freshman Saana Saarteinen all won their matches.

In doubles play, Vickers and Enrique defeated the Arkansas duo of Ana Belmar Hernandez and Sarah McLean, 8-1, while Sant'Anna and Kuricova defeated Maria Christensen and Alex Clark of Missouri, 8-5. Farley and Saarteinen combined for TU's third doubles victory by dispatching Stephen F. Austin's Margot De Haan and Valeria Terentyeva, 8-2

A Year Ago: Samantha Vickers became the fourth player in school history to win the USTA/ITA Central Region Championship when she defeated Iowa's Sonja Molnar 6-1, 6-2 on Monday, October 24, at the Case Tennis Center.

Vickers joined Anousjka van Exel (1998), Aleksandra Durska (2001) and Alicia Pillay (2002) as Central Region Singles Champions from The University of Tulsa.

Maria Sant'Anna claimed the consolation singles championship with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Peta Maree Lancaster of Oklahoma.
