Dec. 6, 2000
Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa senior Jennifer DeSpain has been named the Western Athletic Conference women's tennis Player of the Month for November.
Completing the most successful season of her collegiate career, DeSpain posted an overall record of 9-3 in singles action. In the only November outing, the Edmond, Okla., product went 2-1 at the ITA Central Region Championships held in Omaha, Neb.
Playing alongside Jana Sedivec, the pair won five-straight matches en route to capturing the ITA Central Region doubles crown. The title was DeSpain's second in the past three seasons. The duo finished the month with a flawless 5-0 mark, improving to 12-1 during the fall season.
The tandem also claimed top honors at the Hurricane Invitational and Houston Fall Classic, while advancing to the second round of the USD/SDSU tournament earlier this season.
Playing solo, DeSpain also found success, downing her first two opponents at regionals to advance to the round of 16 before falling to the eventual champion.
With the spring season remaining, DeSpain has already left her legacy, becoming the most successful singles player at Tulsa, winning a school-best 74 matches. The record-setting victory came at the USD/SDSU tournament at the end of September. In Houston, the two-time all-WAC doubles selection added yet another accolade to her list of accomplishments, claiming the Flight No. 1 singles trophy.
