TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa volleyball team swept host school Houston Baptist, 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-14), as Erica Bohannon led the team with nine kills, while Brooke Berryhill's 19 digs and Bailey Clampitt's 19 assists, led TU to its second win of the early season, Saturday morning.

Senior Valerie El Houssine finished the match with eight kills and eight digs, while sophomore transfer Alissa Apecechea finished with her second straight 15-assist output.

The Hurricane (2-0) finished the match hitting .282 as a team, against the Huskies (0-2) .113 hitting percentage, in the one hour 21 minute match.

The Hurricane showed that they were in control early, winning the first frame by eight points. The early and middle parts of the set were tightly contested, as no team led by more than three. With the score 18-15 in favor of Tulsa, momentum shifted in favor of the Hurricane, as the Huskies committed five errors in the final seven points of the stanza to give TU the early 1-0 lead. Bohannon led all players with six kills, while posting a .556 hitting percentage in the first set.

The second stanza was a turning point in the match for the Hurricane, trailing 12-6 early in the set. TU was able to run off a much needed 3-0 run thanks to kills from El Houssine, Nicole Newton and Berryhill to make the score 13-11, forcing a Husky timeout. After the timeout, TU kept the match close, forcing a 20-17 scoreline. Houston Baptist, who had been in control of the frame, faltered late as TU went on an 8-2 run to close out the set. El Houssine finished out the set with four kills and three digs.

The deciding set was all Tulsa, who stormed out to a 9-0 lead and saw their lead grow to as big as 18-5. HBU was able to salvage points late, going on a 6-1 run and cutting its deficit to 21-14. However, Page Painfil recorded two of her seven kills to close out the match for the Hurricane. Panfil and Newtown led the way with three kills each in the final frame.

TU will play their final match of the tournament at 5 p.m. tonight against Northern Arizona.
