TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa volleyball team dropped its first match of the season, 3-1 (15-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-14), against Northern Arizona in the final match of the Husky Classic Saturday afternoon, as Erica Bohannon finished with a match-high 19 kills, while Valerie El Houssine added 16 kills and 17 digs and fellow senior Bailey Clampitt recorded 22 assists and 11 digs in the match.

Bohannon and El Houssine were named to the Husky Classic All-Tournament Team, after leading the Hurricane to a 2-1 record on the weekend.

Setter Alissa Apecechea recorded a career-high 21 assists and added seven digs in her third match as a Golden Hurricane, while Brooke Berryhill tallied 22 digs, her second match of the tournament with 20-plus digs.

NAU (3-0) had a strong .335 hitting percentage as a team en route to handing the Hurricane (2-1) their first loss of the early season.

The first set stayed close in the early stages as the Hurricane forced an early 4-2 lead, with big kills from both El Houssine and Ashley Hooper. The frame was tightly contested with seven lead changes. However, with the frame tied 10-10, NAU went on a 15-5 run to take the set and force Tulsa to play from behind early.

The second set looked to be all NAU as they ran out to a 9-4 lead. The Hurricane were able to bounce back, after Bohnannon and Paige Panfil each provided a kill, followed two Lumberjack attack errors, bringing TU within one (9-8) and forcing NAU to call a timeout.

The timeout worked in Tulsa's favor as they scored six of the next eight points, with two El Houssine kills, giving TU a 14-11 lead into another NAU timeout.

Following the Lumberjack's second timeout, El Houssine remained hot, recording two more kills, in a 6-4 TU run, to give Tulsa their largest lead of the match, 20-15. TU would not trail again, however, NAU was able to tie up the frame at 23-23, before two-straight El Houssine kills gave Tulsa the set, and evening up the match, 1-1.

Bohannon and El Houssine combined for 12 kills in the set.

Despite the close score in the third set, the Hurricane trailed the entire stanza, but was never behind by more than four points at any point. Bohannon added another six kills, while El Houssine add on four more, but it wasn't enough as NAU took a two sets to one lead.

In the final frame, TU was able to keep it close (13-11) until the Lumberjacks closed out the match on a 12-3 run, allowing them to stay perfect in the tournament.

The Hurricane will travel to Central Arkansas for the Sugar Bear Classic next weekend for another three-match tournament.
