Waco, Texas - Erica Bohannon'smatch-high 12 kills led the University of Tulsa volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-15) sweep over host Baylor Friday night.

The freshman outside hitter was second on the team with a .526 hitting percentage. Sophomore middle blocker Nicole Newtonled the team with a .667 hitting percentage and had six kills.

Junior outside hitter Valerie El Houssine recorded her fourth double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Senior outside hitter Kellie Culbertsonadded 12 digs and seven kills.

Junior setter Bailey Clampitt led the Golden Hurricane with 23 assists and had five digs, while freshman setter Genesis Vieraadded 13 assists and seven digs.

"Just a great overall match for us," TU head coach Steven McRobertssaid. "We played as a complete team. We passed and served well. Our setters made the right sets and our hitters stayed aggressive and put the ball away."

Overall, TU (4-1) held the Bears (1-4) to a .019 hitting percentage while the Hurricane hit .330.

"I'm very proud of our defensive effort," McRoberts said. "Holding them to .019 and out blocking them is a huge confidence booster. We need to bring that same focus and competitiveness every day."

The first was very close at the beginning as TU led 8-6, but the Golden Hurricane outscored Baylor 5-1 to extend its lead. The Bears cut TU's lead to four, 17-13, but TU outscored BU 8-3 to win the set by nine points.

In the second set, Baylor scored four of the first five points of the set. But the Golden Hurricane would come back by scoring the next four points. After a point by BU to tie the score at five, TU scored six unanswered points to take the lead. TU outscored the Bears 15-5 to win the set.

Tulsa started the third set strong outscoring Baylor 9-1. The Bears couldn't cut the Hurricane's lead to less than five points during the set and closed out Baylor to continue its winning streak. The Hurricane has won four straight matches since losing its opener to at Dayton.

The Golden Hurricane continues the Baylor Classic with two matches on Saturday. TU starts with Mississippi State at 12:30 p.m. followed by Texas Arlington at 4:30 p.m. Tulsa continues on the road with a midweek match against Kansas State at Manhattan, Kan., on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
