Three Volleyball Players Record Double-Doubles in a Win over Mississippi State

WACO, Texas - Three players record double-doubles as the University of Tulsa volleyball team defeated Mississippi State 3-2 (25-20, 25-17, 22-25, 18-25, 15-12) at the Baylor Classic on Saturday.
Senior outside hitter Kellie Culbertson recorded her 38th career double-double with 13 kills and 17 digs. Junior setter Bailey Clampitt added her second double-double of the season with 34 assists and 11 digs. Freshman setter Genesis Viera also recorded her second double-double of the season with 23 assists and 14 digs.
Freshman outside hitter Erica Bohannon led the Golden Hurricane with 17 kills and had a .467 hitting percentage.
With the first set tied at 19, the Hurricane scored six of the next seven points to win the set by five points.
The Golden Hurricane also won the second set to take a 2-0 lead. TU was up by a point, 12-11 and outscored the Bulldogs 13-6 to win the set by eight points.
But the Bulldogs would bounce back. MSU took the second and third set to tie the match at two. In the final set, the score was tied at 12 before TU scored the final three points in the match to win it.
MSU was led by Kimmy Gardiner with 19 kills and 13 digs, Suzanne Horner with 46 assists and 11 digs and Taylor Scott and Roxanne McVey had 22 digs. Scott added 15 kills to complete a double-double, while Brooke Sassin had 11 kills. Gabby Litwin added 10 digs.
The Golden Hurricane finishes the Baylor Classic with a 4:30 p.m. match against Texas Arlington.
Tulsa continues on the road with a midweek match against Kansas State at Manhattan, Kan., on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
