TULSA, Okla. - Outside hitters Kellie Culbertson and El Houssine recorded double-doubles as the University of Tulsa volleyball team defeated Texas State 3-1 (25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 25-17) on the second day of the Golden Hurricane Classic in Donald W. Reynolds Center on Saturday afternoon.

Culbertson recorded her seventh double-double on the season with a team-high 16 kills and 13 digs. The senior tied her career-high with five service aces and a season-high .342 hitting percentage.

El Houssine recorded her sixth double-double on the season with 11 kills and 13 digs. The junior added three block assists.

Junior setter Bailey Clampitt led TU with a season-high 48 assists and added seven digs. Freshman libero Brooke Berryhill led the team with 16 digs. Sophomore Paige Panfil recorded a career-high eight digs.

In the first set, Tulsa was down by four points, but scored the next six points to take the lead. Texas State would bounce back to take a point lead 19-18 and the Golden Hurricane would come back and tie it at 23. Tulsa scored the final two points to win the set.

TU was down by five, 20-15, in the second stanza, but the Hurricane scored the next four points to pull within a point. Texas State scored five of the next seven points to win the set and tie the match at one. TU hit .303 during the set, but the Bobcats had a .452 hitting percentage.

With the score tied at eight, the Golden Hurricane scored the next five points to take the lead. TU would not give up the lead as it won the second set to take a 2-1 match lead.

After Texas scored the first point of the fourth set, TU scored the next three points to take the lead. The Golden Hurricane didn't give up the lead on the way to win the match.

TU hit .452 during the third set and had a .410 hitting percentage during the final set. The Golden Hurricane hit .292 during the match.

Texas State was led by Alexandra Simms with 17 kills, Caylin Mahoney with 43 assists and Sierra Smith with 16 digs. Amari Deardorff added 16 kills, while Ashlee Hilbun recorded 13 kills. Mahoney recorded 12 digs for a double-double and Ali Hubicsak added 12 digs.

The Golden Hurricane finishes up the tournament against Northern Colorado at 7 p.m. in the Reynolds Center.

Arkansas defeated Northern Colorado 3-0 in the first match of the day. Arkansas and Texas State plays at 5 p.m.
