Volleyball Sweeps Through Tar Heel Classic

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Junior Tyler Henderson totaled 33 kills in two matches Saturday and became The University of Tulsa's all-time kills record holder, as she led the Golden Hurricane to wins over Saint Louis and Miami (Ohio) in the Tar Heel Classic at Carmichael Arena.
The Golden Hurricane (9-4) completed the weekend sweep to take home the tournament title. Henderson now has 1,513 kills for her career, surpassing Kristien Van Lierop, who had 1,510 from 1997-00.
Junior libero Jessica Adams, the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, totaled 35 digs in the two matches. Junior Diana Silva, who was also voted to the all-tournament team, totaled 22 kills and 31 digs Saturday. Henderson joined Silva and Adams on the all-tournament team.
In the first match of the day, Silva, with 14 kills and 21 digs, and Kellie Culbertson, with 10 kills and 16 digs, each posted double-doubles to lead Tulsa to a 3-1 (26-24, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20) win over Saint Louis.
The TU defense held the Billikens under .200 hitting, and the Hurricane averaged 66 percent on sideout opportunities for the match.
Tulsa hit .214 (58-24-159) with 58 kills, 55 assists, four service aces, 70 digs and 5.0 blocks. Saint Louis (4-5) hit .193 (53-22-161) with 53 kills, 49 assists, two aces, 72 digs and 11.0 blocks.
Outside hitter Tyler Henderson tallied 16 kills and hit .270, and libero Jessica Adams recorded 17 digs. Setters Jordan and Bailey Clampitt posted 27 and 20 assists, respectively. Jordan Clampitt added eight digs.
The first set featured 13 ties and five lead changes, as both teams hit under .200 in a battle that went to extra points with a 26-24 final score.
Saint Louis won the second close set, 25-23, before the Hurricane fought back to win the third and fourth sets by five points. TU hit .353 in the third frame and .250 in the fourth, while holding the Billikens to a .241 attack percentage in the third and a meager .104 in the fourth set.

Tyler Henderson tallied 19 kills and Jessica Adams recorded 18 digs to lead Tulsa to a sweep of Miami (Ohio), (25-18, 25-21, 25-20). Kellie Culbertson posted her second double-double of the day with 10 kills and 11 digs.
