ARLINGTON, Texas - Senior Jennifer Eichler had 15 kills and hit .619 for the match to lead The University of Tulsa volleyball team to a 3-0 defeat of Texas Southern Saturday evening in the UT Arlington Hilton Invitational at Texas Hall.

The Golden Hurricane (10-3) hit .256 in the match (38-15-90) with 33 assists, 26 digs and six blocks. Texas Southern (5-9) hit -.038 (22-25-80) with 21 assists, 30 digs and three blocks.

Junior Hannah Stout hit .500 (5-1-8) and freshman Tyler Henderson - who was named to the all-tournament team - had nine kills. Freshman Jordan Clampitt had 19 assists, sophomore Rachel Vukson had 13 assists, and freshman Jessica Adams paced the Hurricane with eight digs. Junior Shaylin Werner led TU with four blocks, and freshman Marina Georgieva posted a career-high five digs.

In the first set, Tulsa took a 4-1 lead, but Texas Southern came back to tie at 5-5. The Hurricane then stormed forward, scoring five straight, and took a 13-7 lead. TU extended its lead to eight at 17-9, and cruised to a 25-18 set win.

In the second set, Tulsa ran out to a 12-2 lead and never looked back. The Hurricane kept the lead between eight and 10 points the rest of the way, and scored the final five of the frame to take a 25-12 set win.

The final set was much of the same as the first two, as TU took an 8-3 lead to begin. Tulsa took a seven-point lead at 14-7, which it extended to 18-10. With a 19-15 lead, the Hurricane scored six consecutive points to win the set, 25-15.

Earlier Saturday, the Golden Hurricane defeated Arkansas State, 3-0.

The Golden Hurricane opens Conference USA play next weekend when it travels to Tulane Friday, and takes on UTEP on Sunday at 1 p.m.
