Sept. 27, 2013
TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa volleyball team fell to the Italian U23 team 3-1 (17-21, 9-21, 21-19, 15-21) on Friday evening in an exhibition match at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
"It was a great experience for the team. I'm really glad Italy could come here to do this," Tulsa Head Coach Steven McRoberts said. "It was better than a practice for us. Of course our focus was to get better going into our Sunday match with UAB, and I think we did that. For us, it was a great experience and I felt like during this (match) we got better."
Italy was led by Laura Partenia with 13 kills, Letizia Camera with 40 assists and Chiara Scarabelli with 16 digs. Valentina Diouf added nine kills and had a .562 hitting percentage, while Raphaela Folie added six total blocks, including three solo.
The Hurricane travels to Birmingham, Ala., for the start of Conference USA schedule against UAB on Sunday at noon. The Golden Hurricane opens its C-USA home campaign with a match against Rice on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. and North Texas on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m.
