Volleyball Wins First C-USA Match, 3-1 over SMU

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa volleyball team avenged an earlier loss to SMU with a 3-1 (30-20, 27-30, 30-26, 30-24) victory over the Mustangs on Saturday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. A crowd of 198 witnessed four Hurricane hitters record double-figure kills, as TU enjoyed a 65-55 advantage in kills. The match included 25 ties and 18 lead changes.
Junior Kassiana Urnau led the TU attack with 17 kills. Senior Dana Weddle posted 13 kills, while juniors Amy Meyer and Germana Hilario added 10 kills apiece. Senior Sam Rutherford nearly became TU's fifth starter in double-figures with nine kills.
Setter Julia Silva contributed a match-high 51 assists to go along with 16 digs for her seventh double-double of the season and third consecutive one. Urnau also added 11 digs for her eighth double-double of the season. Meyer also recorded a double-double with 10 digs, her third on the year. Senior Evyn Wills led the team with a match-best 17 digs.
The Golden Hurricane will hit the road next weekend facing former WAC-rival Rice on Friday, Oct. 7, before facing Houston on Sunday, Oct. 9.
