GREENVILLE, N.C. - Tyler Henderson and Diana Silva combined for 25 kills and Jessica Adams added 13 digs to lead The University of Tulsa volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep (25-4, 25-11, 25-18) at Conference USA foe East Carolina Sunday afternoon at Minges Coliseum.
The Golden Hurricane improved to 19-2 overall and 9-0 in C-USA play, winning its 18th straight match. East Carolina fell to 1-19 overall and 0-8 in league play.
Henderson led TU with 18 kills, while Silva tallied 10 kills and hit .450 for the match. Kelsey Hancock landed three kills in four attempts, and the Hurricane middle blockers, Hannah Stout and Elizabeth Kale, each had five kills. Kale added four blocks.
Jordan Clampitt recorded 34 assists and nine digs with three service aces, while Kellie Culbertson contributed four kills, eight digs and two aces.
Tulsa hit .349 as a team (43-13-86) with 43 kills, 39 assists, eight service aces, 45 digs and 4.0 blocks. East Carolina hit -.048 (15-19-84) with 15 kills, 15 assists, one ace, 29 digs and 4.0 blocks.
The Golden Hurricane committed no attack errors in the opening set and hit .700, earning the side out on all five opportunities. Defensively, it only allowed one kill to the Pirates.
Tulsa trailed, 3-1, early in the second set, but turned that into an, 11-3, advantage with a 10-0 run. ECU never got closer than seven points and the Hurricane reached its largest lead - 14 points - on the final point of the set, winning, 25-11.
The third set was the closest of the three, and East Carolina held the lead through the early portion of the set. ECU led, 12-10, and after TU tied the score twice, and with a 14-14 knot, the Golden Hurricane went on a 9-0 run to move ahead to a, 23-14, lead. ECU scored four of the next six points, but Tulsa closed out the set and won, 25-18.
The Golden Hurricane continues its road swing next weekend in Houston. TU plays Houston Friday at 7 p.m. and Rice Sunday at 1 p.m.
