TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa volleyball team defeated Northwestern State 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-14) on Friday morning on Friday, November 23, 2012 at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

The Golden Hurricane (25-9) hit .313 (44-13-99) while holding the Lady Demons (20-12) to a .118 clip (30-17-110). Tulsa out-dug NSU 56-39, and out-blocked NSU 4-3.

Senior outside hitter Tyler Henderson recorded 15 kills and hit .591 on the match. She also had two blocks, two service aces and two digs.

Junior outside hitter Kellie Culbertson tallied 15 digs, while senior libero Jessica Adams added 13.

Senior outside hitter Diana Silva recorded eight kills and nine digs. Freshman middle blocker Nicole Newton, in her second career start, had six kills, hit .500 and tallied a team-high three blocks.

Senior Jordan Clampitt tallied a team-high 23 assists while sophomore Bailey Clampitt added 12.

The Golden Hurricane took the first set 25-18 as TU led almost the entire set. Henderson and Silva combined for seven kills in the set.

In the second set, Tulsa's stingy defense forced NSU into hitting .097 as TU won the set 25-15. The Golden Hurricane hit .333, and Henderson hit a perfect 1.000 with four kills in the stanza. After Tulsa was down 7-6, TU rallied off an 8-4 run to take a lead it would never relinquish.

Tulsa hit .429 with 18 kills in the third frame to win the set 25-14. With Tulsa holding a 9-6 lead, Tulsa went on a 5-0 run thanks to the serving of Jordan Clampitt as Tulsa built a 14-6 advantage.

 

 

The Hurricane will face North Dakota State at 7 p.m. later tonight.
