Volleyball Falls at SMU, 3-2
Nov. 26, 2011
DALLAS - Tyler Henderson recorded 24 kills and Jessica Adams tallied 22 digs, but it was not enough as the Tulsa volleyball team fell at SMU, 3-2 (19-25, 25-20, 25-11, 8-25, 12-15) Saturday afternoon at Moody Coliseum.
The Golden Hurricane (27-6, 18-2 C-USA), which won the Conference USA Championship, now awaits its NCAA Tournament selection. The selection show will air at 5 p.m. Sunday on ESPNU.
The loss snapped a 14-match winning streak for Tulsa. Henderson hit .383 with her 22 kills, while Kellie Culbertson added 14 kills, nine digs and three service aces. Jordan Clampitt tallied 25 assists with nine digs, and Bailey Clampitt had 21 assists and six digs. Kelsey Hancock contributed nine kills and Diana Silva had 16 digs.
"I am very proud of our team. Even though we lost today, we are hanging two more banners and we still have at least another week to play," Tulsa Head Coach Steven McRoberts said. "I also think this shows how hard it is to win a conference championship. I'll take 18-2 every year. We hate to lost, but we will get over this and be excited to see where the NCAA sends us tomorrow."
Tulsa hit .151 as a team (55-30-166) with 55 kills, 52 assists, six service aces, 71 digs and 3.0 blocks. SMU hit .222 (53-19-153) with 53 kills, 49 assists, one ace, 70 digs and 15.0 blocks.
