Volleyball Ranked No. 23 in Preseason Top 25 Poll

TULSA, Okla. - The University of Tulsa volleyball team is ranked No. 23 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division I Coaches Top 25 Preseason Poll, the organization announced Monday.
The Golden Hurricane appears in the preseason top 25 poll for the first time in program history. TU ended the 2010 season ranked No. 20 after it advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and posted a 31-3 overall record.
Tulsa returns the core of its team that claimed the Conference USA Championship, returning four starters and the libero, and seven letterwinners overall. Junior All-Americans Tyler Henderson, Jordan Clampitt and Jessica Adams anchor the Hurricane lineup.
Five teams on the TU schedule are either ranked in the preseason Top 25 poll or listed as receiving votes: Illinois appeared at No.8, while Florida State, Kentucky, North Carolina and Cal Poly all received votes.
Tulsa opens the 2011 season at the Florida State Invitational, Aug. 26-27, where it will face Albany, Kentucky and Florida State. The Golden Hurricane will open at home with the Park Inn Hurricane Invitational Sept. 2-3 at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. TU's home tournament features UT Arlington, North Dakota State Arkansas-Pine Bluff and UC Davis.
The Hurricane also travels to the Middle Tennessee Invitational where it will face Cal Poly, Middle Tennessee State and Illinois. The Final pre-conference tournament will be the Tar Heel Classic with North Carolina, Saint Louis and Miami (Ohio). The Golden Hurricane opens C-USA play at UTEP on Sept. 23. The C-USA home opener is Sept. 30 against Houston.
