VOLLEYBALL FALL PRACTICE UPDATE
Aug 15, 2013
Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa volleyball team enters its fifth day of practice Thursday in preparation for the 2013 season.
With the short time since camp started, TU's head coach Steven McRoberts has been impressed with what he has seen from the girls.
"The girls are working really hard," McRoberts said. "We are getting a lot accomplished and the girls are picking up on our system defensively and offensively."
Third-year coach McRoberts is working with his youngest team at Tulsa with 12 newcomers over the past two seasons, including six this season.
"We've had some rollercoaster days," McRoberts said. "We've had some players play really well in the morning and not so well at night and vice versa. We had some players that had some really good days and really bad days.
"We are trying to help these players have more good days than bad days. Part of that is them being comfortable with the system and not having to think so much on the floor on about what they are suppose to do and just reacting and playing volleyball."
Before the Hurricane starts the regular season, TU plays an intra squad scrimmage Saturday, Aug. 24 at 4 p.m.
In less than a week after the scrimmage, the Golden Hurricane hits the road for Dayton, Ohio to begin the regular season schedule. TU plays in the Dayton Invitational, where it faces the host #22 Flyers Friday, Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. The Hurricane follows up with a doubleheader the next day against Missouri State at 9 a.m. and Northeastern at 4:30 p.m.
Tulsa opens the home campaign in a midweek match against crosstown rival Oral Roberts at 7 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 3.
