Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa volleyball squad is helping give back to the community. The Golden Hurricane helped boys and girls from the Salvation Army's Mabee Red Shield Boys & Girls Club buy back-to-school shoes at Trippets Shoes.

Members of the team met the students and escorted them to the store. The squad helped the kids pick out shoes for the upcoming school year. Once the students were finished picking out their new shoes, both the team and the students were treated to a pizza party at the Salvation Army Center on Harvard Ave.

"We are glad to help out in any way we can," said TU Head Coach Matt Sonnichsen. "Our goal is to recruit the type of volleyball player who can also serve as a role model for area youth. I think doing activities like this not only helps these organizations, but helps our student-athletes realize that they truly are role models."
