Volleyball Travels East For Showdown With Arkansas

TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa Volleyball squad, after a second-place showing at the Nike Invitational last weekend, will travel east to take on Arkansas in a Tuesday night tilt in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
This marks the first of two Tuesday night contests for the Golden Hurricane this season, and the first since September 8, 2009, when TU faced Arkansas at the Reynolds Center.
Tulsa, 2-1, looks to rebound after falling at Oklahoma in five sets (25-23, 21-25, 25-22, 18-25, 12-15) on Saturday night. TU won its first two contests of the Nike Invitational in straight sets over Western Michigan (25-21, 25-19, 25-21) and Missouri State (25-22, 25-14, 25-22).
As a team, Tulsa holds a .233 attack percentage and a 16.4 kills per set average. Additionally, the Hurricane averages 17.9 digs per set and 1.4 aces per set.
Henderson started her season off with a bang as she tallied 28 kills in 43 attempts to attain an attack percentage of .558 against Western Michigan. After collecting 17 kills against Missouri State, Henderson collected 29 kills against Oklahoma while adding eight digs and two service aces. Additionally, she was named to the Nike Invitational All-Tournament squad, and averaged 6.73 kills per set, which is almost 2.5 kills more than anyone else in the league. Henderson also averaged 7.09 points per set during the invitational which featured four 2011 NCAA Tournament participants.
Adams joined Henderson on the Nike Invitational All-Tournament squad as she averaged 5.27 digs during the invite, which ranks second in the league. Her passing led the Hurricane to a .233 hitting percentage, which is tops in C-USA. She tallied 17 digs during a sweep of Western Michigan and 16 in a straight-set victory over Missouri State before a 25-dig performance against Oklahoma.
Junior Kellie Culbertson added double-double performances in each of the contests, including a career-high 19 kills to go along with 17 digs against Oklahoma. Culbertson has had a double-double in each of her past five contests and eight of the past 10 games.
Arkansas heads into the matchup with a 3-0 record after winning the 2012 Arkansas Invitational. The Razorbacks defeated two future Hurricane opponents in Kansas and Northwestern State en route to the tournament title. Arkansas is averaging 14.6 kills per set, 16.3 digs per set to go along with a attack percentage of .231.
The Razorbacks are led by Roslandy Acosta, who leads the team with 41 kills, and Jasmine Norton who is close behind with 40 kills on the season. Acosta is hitting .315 on the season, while Emily Helm paces the squad with 49 digs.
After the trip to Arkansas, Tulsa will have a quick turnaround before traveling to Lawrence, Kan., to compete at the Kansas Invitational. The Hurricane will play Arkansas State and Kansas on Friday, and Nebraska-Omaha on Saturday. After the weekend tournament, Tulsa will play at Oral Roberts on Tuesday, September 4.
