Van Lierop Earns WAC Volleyball Honors
Sept. 5, 2000 Tulsa's kristien Van Lierop has been named the Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. Van Lierop, a 5-9, senior outside hitter from Kruibeke, Belgium (Saint Joris Institute Bazel), keyed the Tulsa to the team championship at the Morehead State-Boomarang's Ramada Inn Classic, leading the Golden Hurricane to a 3-0 record. For the week, Van Lierop recorded 55 kills (6.11 kpg) on 118 attempts and only seven errors for a .407 hitting percentage. She also added 21 digs (2.33 dpg), three assists, six service aces and four total blocks. Against Chicagoe State, Van Lierop hit .611 (12-1-18) and added two service aces. In the final match of the weekend against Morehead State, she broke the school record for kills in a match (38) and attempts in a match (88). She also added a match-high 17 digs in the match.
