EL HOUSSINE NAMED THE CONFERENCE USA OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sept. 30, 2013
IRVING, Texas - Junior outside hitter Valerie El Houssine was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
"We're really proud of Valerie and the way that she played Sunday at UAB," TU head coach Steven McRoberts said. "She really helped us pull out a tough win and we needed every bit of her great play. One thing that she's really been focusing on over the last week is cutting down on her hitting errors. It was really nice to watch her hard work pay off and she hit well over .300, had 20 kills and had over 20 digs. We just hope that this is something that gives her confidence and something that she can build off of for the rest of the season."
El Houssine recorded a career-high 20 kills and added 25 digs, one shy of her career-high in a 3-2 comeback victory over UAB.
The Eghezee, Belgium native had a .342 hitting percentage and added two block assists and a service ace. She recorded 22.0 points.
El Houssine averaged 4.00 kills per set, 5.00 digs per set, 0.40 blocks per set and 4.40 points per set.
This is the fourth week that a Tulsa volleyball player has been named on Conference USA Player of the Week. Freshman outside hitter Erica Bohannon was named the offensive player of the week on Sept. 9, junior setter Bailey Clampitt was named the setter of the week on Sept. 16 and freshman libero Brooke Berryhill was named the defensive player of the week on Sept. 23.
The Golden Hurricane opens its C-USA home campaign on Friday at 7 p.m. against Rice and plays North Texas on Sunday at 1 p.m.
