TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa volleyball team, after winning its first two road contests in Conference USA last week, will finish up its four-game road swing this weekend. The Golden Hurricane will face Southern Miss on Friday, October 5 in a 7 p.m. tilt before facing UCF on Sunday, October 7 at noon.

Tulsa is sitting in first place in the Conference USA standings, as the Golden Hurricane hold a 5-0 conference record and a 12-7 overall ledger. TU leads the league in kills per set (14.49), assists per set (13.41) and digs per set (17.61). Additionally, Tulsa's kills per set ranks 16th in the nation, its assists per set rank 25th and its digs per frame rank 18th. The Hurricane is hitting .204 on the campaign while holding opponents to a .192 attack clip.

Volleyball Completes Weekend Sweep of Southern Miss
Kellie Culbertson, Tyler Henderson and Diana Silva each tallied double-digit kills as the Tulsa volleyball team completed the weekend sweep of Southern Miss with a 3-0 (27-25, 25-18, 25-23) win Sunday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

The University of Tulsa volleyball team swept the UCF Knights Friday night in the Donald W. Reynolds Center by scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-19.

"We feel like we are close to hitting on all cylinders offensively, but we haven't quite done it yet," commented Head Coach Steven McRoberts. "It's exciting that we are sitting 5-0 right now, and we feel like we have a lot of room of improvement as this conference season continues."

Senior Tyler Henderson ranks second in the nation in both kills per set (5.22) and points per set (5.68). Henderson enjoyed one of her best weekends of the season last weekend as she tallied 31 kills against Houston and 26 against Rice.

Junior outside hitter Kellie Culbertson has 12 double-doubles on the season, and is three away from surpassing her 2011 mark of 14. She ranks second on the team in both kills per set (2.82) and digs per set (3.37).

Leading the Tulsa defense is senior libero Jessica Adams, who leads the conference in digs averaging 5.06 per frame. She has won the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week four times this season, and last week was honored with the CVU.com National Player of the Week accolade. Adam's 5.06 digs per frame also ranks 46th nationally.

Southern Miss heads into the weekend with a 6-10 overall record and a 2-2 ledger in C-USA play. Jasmine Crowell headlines the Golden Eagles attack averaging 3.28 kills per set, while Halie Ecker and Lydia Bonner averaged 3.16 and 3.19, respectively. Kristen Fleming leads the squad in assists averaging 10.55 assists per set, while Elizabeth Rinaudo is the team leader in digs averaging 4.02 per frame. a 4.02 per set average. As a team, USM is averaging 12.75 kills, 14.20 digs and 1.93 team blocks per set.

UCF enters the weekend with a 5-11 record and a 2-2 C-USA ledger. The Knights, picked to finish third in the conference, are led by Angelica Crump, who leads the team averaging 3.26 kills per frame. DeLaina Sarden, Evija Vilde, and Ashley Gialenios all average over two kills a stanza to lead the balanced attack. Meredith Murphy headlines the UCF defense as she averages 3.58 digs per set to pace the Knights, while Marie Reiterova is the team leader in assists with 6.94 per set.

The Hurricane return home next weekend when they will host UTEP on Friday, October 12 at 7 p.m. before the Green Wave of Tulane roll into town for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, October 14.
