IRVING, Texas - Freshman libero Brooke Berryhill was named the Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

"Brooke had another solid weekend for us," TU head coach Steven McRoberts said. "She just keeps getting better and better as the libero. Along with her high dig numbers, she had a very good passing percentage in serve receive. We're proud of her that she got another award. We just think that she's going to get better and better."

Berryhill recorded a pair of 19 digs in a 3-0 win over Louisiana Tech on Friday night and in a 3-1 win over Southern Miss on Sunday afternoon. She had no reception errors in 31 attempts, averaged 5.43 digs per set and added six assists during the week.

The Waco, Texas native leads TU with 4.56 digs per set, which ranks sixth in the C-USA and ranks second in the C-USA with 5.33 digs per set in league matches. Berryhill has recorded 19-plus digs in three of her last four matches and has recorded 19-plus digs in 10 matches this the season.

As a team, the Hurricane leads the C-USA and the NCAA with 18.92 digs per set this season and have three players with at least 3.60 digs per set - Berryhill with 4.56 digs per set, senior outside hitter Kellie Culbertson with 4.32 digs per set and junior outside hitter Valerie El Houssine with 3.68 digs per set.

This is Berryhill's third defensive player of the week award this season as she was named C-USA Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 23 and Oct. 7.

This is TU's seventh player of the week this season as freshman outside hitter Erica Bohannon was named offensive player of the week on Sept. 9, junior setter Bailey Clampitt was named the setter of the week on Sept. 16, El Houssine was named offensive player of the week on Sept. 30 and Culbertson was named the offensive player of the week on Oct. 14.

 

 

The Golden Hurricane travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to face Middle Tennessee State on Friday, at 7 p.m.
