IRVING, Texas - Junior middle blocker Carly Boatwright was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the conference on Monday.

"Carly had a great weekend for us defensively," TU head coach Steven McRoberts said. "It's been nice having her back the last couple of weeks. She's fighting through an injury. We know that when she's on the court, we have more energy and the team plays better. Her last three matches, she's blocked very well and also put up some decent offensive numbers for us too.

It's a great thing for our team. It shows how balanced we are that we've had seven different players to get a conference player of the week award. We've needed to have a strong balance this year, since we don't really have that one big go to. I'm really happy for the hard work that Carly has done has paid off and has been recognized in this matter."

Boatwright recorded 16 total blocks, including seven against Tulane on Friday night and nine against Marshall on Sunday afternoon.

The Parker, Colo., native averaged 2.29 blocks per set and 2.07 points per set over the weekend. She added two digs, recorded 14.5 points, six kills and had no reception errors in four attempts.

Boatwright leads TU with 0.84 blocks per set overall and leads the team with a 1.04 blocks per set in conference play, which ranks her tied for ninth in the C-USA.

As a team, the Golden Hurricane has recorded 32 blocks in its last three matches. This is the first C-USA weekly honor of Boatwright's career, and the fifth Defensive Player of the Week award for TU this season, the third consecutive award.

This is the ninth C-USA weekly award for the Golden Hurricane. Tulsa is the first school in C-USA history to have seven different players earned conference weekly award.

The Golden Hurricane travels to Texas to finish the regular season against UTEP on Friday at 8 p.m. and UTSA on Sunday at 1 p.m.
