Ebony Parker, Erika Wakefield and Tatyana Perez all scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough as the Tulsa women's basketball team dropped an 82-62 decision to Kansas State on Monday night at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kan.  TU fell to 1-1 on the season, while KSU moved to 2-0 overall.

"There was a big height differential, but if you take away the second quarter defensively we were right there," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "In that second quarter they shot 65-percent and that's because they were getting into the paint.  We just have to be more solid defensively and we have to play better defensively as a team."

Parker had a career-high 15 points, shooting 5-of-12 from three-point range, while Wakefield also tallied 15 points and Perez scored a career-best 10 points.  Kendrian Elliott had six points and a team-leading six boards, and Ashley Hughes had four assists.

As a team, TU hit 11 three pointers, compared to KSU's two three-point baskets, while K-State outscored Tulsa in the paint, 60-12.

"We told our team that the UMKC game wasn't a shooters game, but today was going to be different and we shot 31 three-pointers," Mossman said.  "If you take away that bad third quarter offensively, we still had a good shooting percentage."

Tulsa shot 41-percent from the field, including 35-percent from three-point range, and was 5-of-8 from the free throw line, compared to K-State's 50-percent from the field, 20-percent from behind the arc and 60-percent from the charity stripe.

Tulsa hit just 2-of-7 to start the game, while Kansas State was 4-of-5 and hit all four of their free throw attempts to take a 13-5 lead with 5:05 on the clock in the first frame.  Tatyana Perez hit a three-pointer, followed by a three by Ebony Parker and a jumper by Erika Wakefield and TU pulled to within two, 15-13, with 46-seconds on the clock.  The teams traded baskets and the Wildcats had a 17-15 advantage after the first quarter.

Liesl Spoerl hit a jumper to tie the game at 17-all to start the second quarter for the first tied score of the game.  TU tied the score again at 19-19 on a basket by Perez who would score the next five points to set her career-best of 10-points with nearly seven minutes still to play in the second period.

Kansas State inched ahead throughout the remainder of the second quarter to take a 13-point advantage (46-33) into the break.  TU shot 40-percent from the field, including 46-percent from three-point range, and went 2-for-2 from the free throw line in the first half, while KSU shot 51-percent from the field, but was just 20-percent from behind the arc, and hit 7-of-8 at the line.

The Wildcats outscored the Hurricane, 21-16, in the third quarter for a 67-49 advantage with one period to play.  K-State had a game-high 25-point lead (74-49) with 6:33 left in the contest and again with 5:51 to play (76-51), but only had a 15-13 scoring advantage in the final frame.

KSU was led by Breanna Lewis with 18 points, while Kindred Wesemann had 12 points, and both Shaelyn Martin and Kayla Goth had 10 points.  Peyton Williams and Eternati Willock both had seven rebounds.

Tulsa will return to action on Thursday, November 17 at Oral Roberts.  Game time is set for 7:00 pm at the Mabee Center on the ORU campus.
