The University of Tulsa football team arrived Thursday afternoon in Miami for Monday's Miami Beach Bowl against the Central Michigan Chippewas.
"Miami is a great destination for our bowl experience," said Tulsa Head Coach Philip Montgomery after arriving at the team headquarters hotel. "It is a business trip for us. We're going after number 10. We have a great opponent and it's a great venue, but obviously when you get off the plane it's hard not to smile. You have warm weather, palm trees, the ocean and you have South Beach. We have to get over that the next couple days, and get down to really the reason why we're here."
Tulsa will be seeking its 10th win of the season, while CMU will be looking to notch win number seven. The Hurricane comes into the game with an overall 9-3 record, while losing only to #2 Ohio State, Houston and Navy. Eighteen Tulsa seniors will be playing in their final game for the Hurricane.
The Chippewas, representing the Mid-American Conference, had solid non-conference wins at Oklahoma State and against UNLV en route to an overall 6-6 record.
"We've talked about the fine line of having fun and getting ready to play a very good Central Michigan team. I want them to enjoy it and have fun, and do it in the right way, but understand we are going there for a purpose and the purpose for us is getting that win number 10, and let our seniors go out the right way," added Montgomery.
The Tulsa team will practice the next two days before Sunday's final walk-thru of the season. The Golden Hurricane will participate in the Team Welcome Party for both teams at Marlins Park Thursday night.
