The University of Tulsa football team continued preparations for the 2016 Miami Beach Bowl on Friday. It was the first workout for the Golden Hurricane in the warmth of Miami.
Tulsa practiced in pads at Flamingo Park in the early afternoon Friday with a 105-minute workout.
Tulsa (9-3, 6-2 AAC) will face Central Michigan (6-6, 3-5 MAC) on Monday, Dec. 19 with a 2:30 p.m. (ET) kickoff time at Marlins Park, which sits on the site of the former Orange Bowl stadium in downtown Miami.
"This was a normal workday. I'm excited about being on the practice field and getting some work done today. We had good meetings in the morning, and this is the next step," said Montgomery before Tulsa's afternoon workout.
Asked about the importance about playing with an edge, and how Coach Montgomery makes sure his team has that edge.
"We're a team fighting for respect. We play with a chip on our shoulder and have to play with that chip on our shoulder, and that brings the mentality out of our team that we want. Our seniors and leaders know that and I think they'll make sure our football team has it," added Montgomery.
Tulsa's workout today was a more upbeat and physical day than the Tulsa team would normally conduct on a 'Thursday' workout. The Hurricane will have a normal 'Thursday' practice on Saturday.
