The Tulsa women's basketball team dropped a 63-58 decision to Little Rock on Sunday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. TU fell to 4-8 on the season, while LR moved to 6-5 overall.
Alexis Gaulden led the Golden Hurricane attack for the second-straight game with a team-best 18 points, while Kendrian Elliott posted her second career double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Erika Wakefield added 10 points and a team-high three steals.
Both teams had 10 assists and 12 turnovers, while Little Rock had a 51-32 lead in rebounds and a 10-6 advantage in steals, and TU had a 6-0 advantage in blocks.
"The difference was how well Little Rock rebounded the ball," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said. "They just manhandled us inside with 21 offensive rebounds and that is the difference in the game with all of those extra shots they got."
TU shot 42-percent from the field, 31-percent from three-point range and 50-percent (3-of-6) from the free throw line, while LR shot 35-percent from the field, 22-percent from behind the arc and 72-percent (13-of-18) from the charity stripe.
Tulsa jumped out to a 9-0 start with 6:14 on the clock in the first quarter, but Little Rock battled back to trail 17-12 at the end of the frame. The Golden Hurricane shot 53-percent in the first period, while the Trojans shot just 21-percent.
LR pulled to within one point, 17-16, at the 7:57 mark and again at the 6:53 mark (19-18), before TU went on a 12-0 run to take a 31-18 advantage with 3:20 remaining in the frame. Tulsa took an 11-point lead, 33-22, into the break.
The Golden Hurricane climbed to a 15-point lead (37-22), before Little Rock started to chip away at the deficit, closing the gap to just five points at the 2:13 mark (45-40) and again to close the third quarter, 47-42. The Trojans outscored Tulsa, 20-14, in the third 10-minute period, shooting at a 40-percent clip compared to their 25-percent in the first half.
With 5:28 on the clock, a layup by Kaitlyn Pratt made it a one-point game (51-50), and then Sharde' Collins scored a jumper to give the Trojans their first lead of the contest at the 4:29 mark, and from there Little Rock never relinquished the lead. LR had a game-best seven-point lead with 22-second remaining and earned a five-point win.
Little Rock was led three players with 15 points, including Pratt, Collins and Kyra Collier, while Ronjanae DeGray added 10 points. Collier pulled down 17 rebounds.
Tulsa will return to action on Wednesday, December 21 at Indiana State. Game time is set for 11:00 am.
