Three Tulsa women's basketball players scored in double figures, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Hurricane dropped a 72-68 decision to Indiana State on Wednesday afternoon at the Hulman Center in Terre Haute, Ind.  TU fell to 4-9 on the season, while ISU moved to 6-5 overall.

"They shot too many free throws and that's been our problem all year," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "When you make more field goals, more three's and more rebounds, but they have 20 points at the free throw line to your eight, that is a problem."

Erika Wakefield had team-highs of 17 points, six assists and four steals, while Alexis Gaulden and Ebony Parker both had 13 points.  Kendrian Elliott pulled down a team-best 10 rebounds.

Tulsa finished with a 47-38 lead in rebounds, including 23 offensive boards and 24 defensive, and a 5-4 advantage in steals.  ISU had a 13-11 lead in assists and a 4-1 advantage in blocks.

TU shot it's second-worst field goal percentage on the season in the contest with 35.1-percent, including just 30-percent from three-point range, and were 88-percent from the free throw line, while the Sycamores shot 40-percent from the field, 37-percent from behind the arc and 69-percent from the charity stripe.

There were two lead changes and two tied scores in the first quarter, including a 14-14 mark at the end of the frame.  TU had a five-point advantage (10-5) at the 4:49 mark, but the Sycamores battled back to tie the game.

Tulsa jumped out to a 24-16 lead at the 6:34 mark in the second quarter, as Shug Dickson and Ebony Parker both had five points to start the frame.  TU continued to inch ahead for a 14-point lead, 35-21, but the Sycamores ended the quarter with four points to give the Hurricane the nine-point advantage at the break, 35-26.

Both teams shot 37-percent from the field, including 33-percent from three-point range, in the first half.  ISU shot 60-percent from the charity stripe (3-of-5), while TU didn't attempt a free throw.  Tulsa had a 29-14 advantage in rebounds in the first half, as the Hurricane had 15 offensive boards and 14 defensive rebounds.

Indiana State outscored Tulsa, 16-7, to start the third quarter and tie the game at 42-all at the 4:22 mark.  ISU then climbed to a nine-point lead, 53-44, to close out the period.  Wakefield had all nine of the Hurricane's points in the quarter, as TU got outscored 27-9 in the frame.

Tulsa battled back, having a 24-19 scoring advantage in the final quarter, but couldn't overcome the third quarter deficit.

Wendi Bibbins led ISU with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Tierra Webb added 12 points and Ashley Taia had 11.

Tulsa will return to action on Sunday, January 1 against Houston.  Game time is set for 3:30 pm in Houston, Texas.
