TU to Host Pitch Hit and Run Competition Sunday

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa will host a Pitch Hit & Run competition on Sunday, April 3 at the Collins Family Softball Complex, following the TU softball game against East Carolina. Girls aged 7-14 are invited to participate in the local competition, which is part of the national Scotts Major League Baseball Pitch Hit & Run Competition.
 
The Tulsa competition will begin at approximately 2:30 p.m., or 30 minutes following the conclusion of the TU softball game against East Carolina, which begins at noon. The competition will be held on the field at the Collins Family Softball Complex on the campus of The University of Tulsa. 

Youth 8th grade and under wearing a jersey will get free admission to the TU softball game on Sunday. A general admission ticket is $5. There is no entry fee for the Pitch Hit & Run Competition.
 
Participants will be tested in throwing strikes to a Strike Zone target, hitting a ball off of a tee for distance and accuracy, and timed running from second base around third to home plate.
 
Pitch Hit & Run™ is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball®. This grassroots program is designed to provide youngsters with an opportunity to compete, free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core softball skills. 
 
Girls are divided into four age divisions: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, 13/14, and have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including Team Championships at Major League ballparks and the National Finals at the 2016 MLB™ All-Star Game®. 
 
The individual Pitching, Hitting, and Running Champions, along with the All-Around Champion in each division age group at the Local Competition will be awarded and advance to the Sectional Level of Competition. 
 
All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and have their parent or guardian fill out a registration/waiver form prior to the start of the competition. For questions concerning the competition, please contact Sam Lazarus at sam-lazarus@utulsa.edu.
 
Participants have the option to register ahead of time by clicking here and bringing a printed out copy of the registration confirmation to the event along with a copy of the participant's birth certificate. 
 
The Hurricane (23-6, 2-1 American) plays host to East Carolina (18-16, 0-3 American) in a three-game American Athletic Conference series Friday through Sunday. Game times are: 5 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday.
