Shug Dickson came in off the bench and scored a career-high 21 points, but it wasn't enough as Tulsa dropped a 58-49 decision to Temple on Saturday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.  The Golden Hurricane fell to 5-12 overall and 1-3 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Owls moved to 13-3 overall and 4-0 in the league.

"I thought Shug was really good at attacking, and that was the focus going into this game," Head Coach Matilda Mossman said.  "We knew Temple was going to attack us so we couldn't sit back on our heels, we had to go and attack back.  I think for her coming in her 16th game of her career she was really good about attacking."

Ebony Parker added eight points off the bench, while Erika Wakefield and Crystal Polk both had six points.  Kendrian Elliott pulled down a team-best nine boards, Wakefield had four assists and Alexis Gaulden had two steals.

Tulsa shot 36-percent from the field, including just 16-percent from three-point range, and was 7-of-10 from the free throw line, while Temple shot 35-percent from the field, 18-percent from behind the arc and 81-percent (13-of-16) from the charity stripe.

The Hurricane had a 41-36 advantage in rebounds and a 10-8 lead in assists, while the Owls had an 8-4 advantage in steals and a 4-1 lead in blocks.

Tulsa had a 35 points off the bench, 28 points in the paint and six points off turnovers, while Temple had just five points off the bench, 22 points in the paint and 15 points off turnovers.

Tulsa got off to a slow start, making just one of their first 10 attempts, while Temple was 4-of-9 to start the contest to take a 10-2 lead at the 3:50 mark in the first frame.  The Hurricane battled back on a 7-4 run to close out the half trailing 14-9.

Tulsa outscored Temple, 11-7, to pull to within one, 21-20, at the 3:04 mark, and took the lead, 25-23, on a three-pointer by Ebony Parker with 1:55 left to play in the second quarter.  The Owls, however, put together a 7-2 run to close out the period with a 30-27 advantage.

Temple started the third frame with a 7-0 run to take a 10-point lead, 37-27, at the 7:11 mark, and climbed to a 42-33 lead at the end of the quarter.  The Hurricane scored just six points in the quarter off baskets by Dickson, Parker and Wakefield.

Tulsa and Temple both scored 16 points in the final quarter, as the Hurricane was unable to overcome their nine-point deficit.

Temple was led by Feyonda Fitzgerald and Donnaizha Fountain with 19 points apiece, while Alliya Butts added 13 points.  Ruth Sherrill pulled down 12 rebounds.
