Tulsa Softball Falls to #10 Arizona, 10-2

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Tulsa Softball team fell to No. 10-ranked Arizona on Sunday afternoon in five innings at the Hillenbrand Invitational, 10-2. The Hurricane (1-4 overall) settled in midway through the contest to pull within four runs before a four-run sixth inning for Arizona (5-0 overall).
Tulsa put some early pressure on in the top of the first inning after back-to-back singles for Maddie Withee and Julia Hollingsworth put two runners on with one out before a fielder's choice and strikeout ended the frame.
Arizona used a three-run home run from Mo Mercado to take a 3-0 advantage after one complete. The Wildacats added to the lead in the second and third innings to go up 6-0.
Emily Watson recorded her third strikeout of the day in the bottom of the third inning, giving her 266 for her career at Tulsa and moving her into 10th all-time on TU's list for career strikeouts. The junior passed former teammate Caitlin Sill's (2013-16) mark of 265.
The Hurricane retired seven straight batters after Lexi Blevins entered the game with two outs in the third inning as the Tulsa offense plated two runs in the top of the fifth on a Hollingsworth at-bat. Hollingsworth finished the day with a team-leading two hits in three at-bats while posting nine hits in five games.
Tulsa will continue tournament play away from home next weekend when they travel to Boca Raton, Fla. for a five-game slate on the campus of Florida Atlantic. TU's first game is scheduled for Friday at 2:45 p.m. against Toledo.
