BOCA RATON, Fla. – The University of Tulsa Softball team split a pair of games at the Strike-Out Cancer Tournament on Friday evening, bouncing back in the bottom of the seventh against Toledo in a 5-4 win before falling to host-FAU 5-1.

The Hurricane (2-5 overall) used a three-run second inning to go ahead of Toledo (1-5 overall) early in the first game of the afternoon. Shannon Hughes drove in a run on a RBI double down the left line after singles from Maddie Withee and Morgan Neal put two runners on with one out. Haley Meinen followed with a two-out single to center field that plated two runs and put Tulsa ahead 3-0.

Emily Watson avoided trouble in the first and four innings, coming up with strikeouts for the third out of each inning with two runners on to end the scoring threat. Watson finished with six strikeouts in seven innings of work while allowing four hits.

Toledo's Shannon Rice hit two home runs, one in the third to cut the Hurricane lead down to two before a three-run home run in the top of the seventh gave the Rockets a 4-3 lead.

Tori Stafford and Meinen led-off the bottom half of the seventh with back-to-back singles before advancing to second and third on an illegal pitch with no outs. After Shelby Estocado walked to load the bases, Maggie Withee drove in Stafford from third to tie things up at 4-4. Meinen scored the game winning run on Julia Hollingsworth's at-bat to seal the 5-4 win over the Rockets.

Estocado's second home run of the season tied up game two at 1-1 in the top of the third inning. Tulsa recorded five hits in the second game of the doubleheader, led by Morgan Neal's two-for-three showing at the plate.

FAU (5-2 overall) responded by scoring two runs in the bottom half of the third and again in the fifth to go ahead 5-1.

Tulsa will continue play tomorrow morning with a doubleheader, beginning with a matchup against Syracuse at 8 a.m. before wrapping up the day against Savannah State at 10:15 a.m.
