TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa Softball team had it going on both sides of the ball Friday evening as they shutout No. 23-ranked California 4-0 at Collins Family Softball Complex. The Hurricane (13-9 Overall) racked up a tied for season-best 11 hits in the win as three TU hitters finished with multi-hit performances.
Julia Hollingsworth was one of the Tulsa batters with a multi-hit game as she opened the first home at-bat with a single to start a three-run inning for the Hurricane. The sophomore scored two runs to give her a team-leading 20 this season.
Maddie Withee singled for one of her two hits three batters later to put the first run of the game on the board. Shannon Hughes picked up an RBI single before another Tulsa run came across on a California (16-4 Overall) throwing error to put TU up 3-0.
Tulsa added a run in the bottom of the second on another run-scoring single from Maddie Withee as the Hurricane defense held strong the rest of the way with the four run lead.
Emily Watson picked up her second shutout of the year, allowing just four Bear hits while striking out nine and knocking her season earned run average down to 1.59. Watson's win moved her to 9-3 this season with 103 strikeouts.
Tori Stafford picked up a career-high three hits with a perfect showing at the plate, giving her five hits in her last five at-bats.
Tulsa will continue home play tomorrow afternoon with a matchup at 3:45 p.m. against Texas Tech.
