
Tulsa Downs #25 Arkansas in Five as Watson Picks Up Third Straight Shutout

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa Softball team shutout their second ranked opponent at home this season as they blanked No. 25-ranked Arkansas 8-0 in five innings on Wednesday evening at Collins Family Softball Complex. Emily Watson picked up her third straight shutout for the Golden Hurricane (15-10 Overall) while tossing 4.1 innings of perfect softball before allowing the lone Arkansas (19-5 Overall) hit with one out in the fourth.

Watson added eight strikeouts while walking none, retiring the first 13 Razorback batters of the contest in a night where picked up her 11th win of the year.

The Hurricane offense provided some cushion for the junior pitcher in the second and third innings, plating four runs in each frame with two outs to go ahead 8-0.

Rylie Spell led Tulsa with a career-high five RBI to go along with a single and a home run, driving in the first runs of the contest in with two outs in the second inning with a RBI single to shallow right center field to bring in Shannon Hughes and Shelby Estocado.

Maggie Withee drove in the third and fourth runs of the game with a two-RBI single to turn in her second multi-RBI performance in the last three contests as Tulsa went up on the Razorbacks 4-0.

Spell came through once again for the Hurricane in the following inning as Tulsa put together back-to-back offensive spurts that saw nine batters take an at-bat in the second and third innings. The sophomore's first career home run was a three-run shot over the wall in left field that scored Estocado and Haley Meinen to put TU ahead 7-0.

Morgan Neal's third single of the afternoon drove in the eventual game-winning run as she picked up her tied for team-high 13th RBI of the year while raising her batting average to .400.

The Hurricane had seven batters record a base hit in the contest while five different players scored a run in the win.

Tulsa will return to weekend tournament play on Friday when they travel to Lawrence, Kan. for the Rock Chalk Challenge, opening up play with a game against Southeast Missouri State at 11:30 a.m. Â
