TULSA FOOTBALL MEDIA DAY NOTES
PLAYERS REPORTING . . .
A total of 105 student-athletes reported for the first preseason practice Monday night . . . the count includes 76 returning players and 29 newcomers, including eight walk-ons . . . due to injury, returnees DJ Allen, Rowdy Frederick and Keanu Hill and newcomers Chase Brown and Malik Jackson are not part of the 105-man roster.
 
FOUR ALL-CONFERENCE PLAYERS RETURN TO TULSA OFFENSE . . . Tulsa returns four players named to the American Athletic Conference all-conference team last year . . . junior center Chandler Miller was a first-team all-conference selection in 2016, while left tackle Evan Plagg, left guard Tyler Bowling and running back D'Angelo Brewer were second team honorees.
 
ONE OF NATION'S TOP OFFENSES RETURN SEVEN STARTERS . . . In 2016, Tulsa averaged 527.0 yards of total offense to rank fourth nationally and was seventh in the NCAA for scoring (42.5 ppg), eighth for rushing (261.7 ypg) and 30th for passing (265.3 ypg) . . . seven starters and 22 lettermen return from that offense . . . one of two Tulsa 1,000-yard rushers from last season return to the Tulsa roster in the likes of D'Angelo Brewer, who gained 1,435 yards for a 119.6 average per game . . . the offensive line returns four of five starters from a unit that paved the way for a school record eight 300+ yard rushing games . . . 1,000-yard career receiver Justin Hobbs returns for his junior season.
 
THE DEFENSE LOOKS TO IMPROVE EVEN MORE IN 2017 . . . The Tulsa defense returns 25 lettermen and six starters . . . in 2016, the Tulsa defense made great improvement, holding opponents to 10 points and 110 yards less than the previous season . . . the end spot will be the strength of the front seven as Jesse Brubaker and Jeremy Smith are returning starters . . . Brubaker had a team-high 13.5 TFLs for – 60 yards, while Smith tallied eight stops for -52 yards in 10 games . . . the linebacker corps goes through somewhat of an overhaul, but one mainstay, Craig Suits, returns for his senior season . . . Suits is Tulsa's lone defensive player with over 200 career tackles . . . a total of eight lettermen return to the Tulsa defensive secondary, including four at safety and four at the cornerback slots . . . the secondary starters are led by cornerbacks Kerwin Thomas, Reggie Robinson and safety Jordan Mitchell.
 
TULSA PLAYERS NAMED TO PRESEASON WATCH LISTS . . . Five Tulsa student-athletes were named to preseason watch lists this year . . . senior running back D'Angelo Brewer was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List for the nation's most outstanding college football player and also the Doak Walker Award for the nation's top running back . . . junior Chandler Miller was named to the Rimington Trophy Watch List, an honor given to the nation's top center, for the second straight season . . . Miller and senior tackle Evan Plagg were named to the Outland Trophy Watch List, an award that goes to the nation's top interior lineman . . . senior place-kicker Redford Jones was named to the Lou Groza Preseason Watch List . . . junior offensive lineman Willie Wright was named to the Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, which recognizes exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement, and to the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team© nomination list.

KICKOFF LUNCHEON PRESENTED BY ONEOK AND ONE GAS . . . The Annual Tulsa Football Kick-off Luncheon presented by ONEOK and ONE Gas is scheduled for Tuesday, August 15 at 12 noon at the Downtown Doubletree Hotel . . . Head Coach Philip Montgomery will introduce the 2017 Golden Hurricane team to the public.

TU UNVEILS FLEXBOOK AND GROUP TAILGATING LOT FOR 2017 . . . The University of Tulsa unveiled two major announcements encouraging fan involvement for the 2017-18 Golden Hurricane athletic season . . . the All-Sports FlexBook allows fans the flexibility of using game tickets interchangeably between football and basketball, as well as ticketed Olympic sports . . . TU FOOTBALL CAN BE HEARD ON BIG COUNTRY 99.5 FM . . . Tulsa Football can be heard on Big Country 99.5 FM KXBL Radio, flagship radio station for the Golden Hurricane, for the third straight season . . . all games and the Philip Montgomery Radio Show can be heard on Big Country in 2015 . . . the airtime for TU football game broadcasts is one hour prior to kickoff.
 
MAMADOU'S IS HOME OF THE PHILIP MONTGOMERY RADIO CALL-IN SHOW . . . The Philip Montgomery Radio Call-in Show will air live from Mamadou's at the Aloft Hotel Tulsa at 200 Civic Center in downtown Tulsa . . . the show will air live on Mondays throughout the football season from 7-8 p.m. on the home of Golden Hurricane football, Big Country 99.5 FM KXBL Radio . . . the first show airs on Monday, August 28th , as Coach Montgomery and Host Bruce Howard will preview the season opener against Oklahoma State
 
THE PHILIP MONTGOMERY TV SHOW AIRS ON COX-CHANNEL 3 . . . The Philip Montgomery Television Show will air Monday nights at 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. om Cox Communications-Channel 3/1003 in Tulsa and Oklahoma City . . . the show can also be seen on KWHB Channel 47 at 9:30 pm on Wednesdays . . .
